Visual IFS Help

Getting Started

Visual IFS is a program for designing IFS fractals. But you don't have to worry about lines upon lines of numbers. In a user-friendly environment, you can draw your fractals almost like you'd draw a picture. In fact, you are drawing a picture. Only you're not limited to elementary shapes. With only three or four transformations, you can draw a picture that would otherwise be very complicated.

If you have not already installed Visual IFS, do so now. Start Visual IFS from the start menu. You should see a window appear that looks something like the image below. (Note: If you have not registered Visual IFS, a window will appear every time you load the program to remind you to do so.)

You'll probably recognize the usual menu items (File, Edit, etc.), as well as many of the buttons on the toolbar. Let's start by opening an IFS file. Click Open on the File menu (or use the handy button on the toolbar) and choose Triangle.IFS from the dialog box. Since you are still in design mode, all you see is three transformations in the fractal view window. Click the button with the little eye and you will see a fractal start to appear. If you have the registered version, you can print this fractal by clicking Print on the File menu. Or you can save this image as a picture file (-. BMP) using the Export option on the File menu. You can even copy it to the clipboard by clicking Copy Image on the Edit menu. Of course, this is just a sampling of the many features of Visual IFS.
